Located in the Wimmera, just south of Mt Arapiles, this farmhouse sits within a vast cropping landscape dotted with bulokes and red gums. Home to a young family, it balances rural life as both a private retreat and the operational heart of a working farm.
Designed in response to harsh sun and strong plains winds, the elevated home with cranked floor plan creates a sheltered northern verandah overlooking the picturesque Mt Arapiles. The layout provides for farm office and worker facilities to the east, family/living spaces to the west, with a central living area interconnecting assisting work/home life balance.
Robust, locally sourced materials reflect the pragmatism of the Australian rural vernacular. Built for longevity, the home pairs durable brick and galvanised steel with a warm olive and gold interior palette.
